EXPERIENCE
My combined experience includes over 25 years in art education and an art related field. I have taught both in brick and mortar and virtual environments and have instructed preschool through adult age students.
My most recent teaching position was at Mastery Charter School in the Germantown section of Philadelphia where I taught art to kindergarten to 8th grade students. While I believe this opportunity has been invaluable to me both professionally and personally, I felt as though I was unable to reach my full potential as an art educator. I have designed and instructed studio art classes at the Abington Art Center and in my home studio. I am seeking a position in art education where the administration embraces the importance of an equal and well rounded educational experience for all students and encourages creative curriculum development and implementation.
Prior to the above, I taught Fine Arts at Agora Cyber Charter School. The personalized after school art classes that I taught in my personal studio helped to balance the very technical aspects of my full time job. The virtual course that I taught combined art history with a studio component. I also taught classes in graphic design, creating video and photo editing using free online software. I was responsible for the online instruction of 250 high school students using Elluminate Virtual Classroom software and personally interacted with my students and their parents on a daily basis via the internet and telephone as well as home visits. It was very exciting to be a part of this innovative trend in education. The virtual school opportunity enhanced my technical abilities and challenged me to explore alternate ways to engage my students and communicate with them and their families in a meaningful way. I quickly realized however, that I needed the opportunity to meet both the triumphs and challenges of teaching on a full time basis in a brick and mortar classroom to further my professional goals.
Formerly, I taught at Ancillae-Assumpta Academy where I helped create a dynamic art curriculum based on state and national standards as well as assessment strategies for kindergarten through eighth grade. In my course curriculums, I taught digital photography (including how to use Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator software), black and white pinhole photography and development, printmaking, ceramics, textile art and acrylic painting. I also worked with faculty in the production of two major school shows assisting with costume design and set creation as well as the design and development of class ads for the school show ad book and school yearbook using Adobe Indesign software.
In addition to the skills I have gained in my positions as an art teacher, I have ten years of experience as an interior designer. I developed and managed an annual summer acrylic painting camp out of my home studio. I was hired by the owners of Faith & Hope Boutique to rebrand their business image and redesign their website. I created a new logo for the company and was responsible for producing new printed marketing materials. Over the course of the past 25 years I have continued to build my own portfolio in oil painting, exhibiting work in local art shows. I have participated in fundraising events for breast cancer, helping to raise $100,000 for the 3-DAY WALK, designed a ring for Silpada to raise capitol for LBBC and helped to create the Hopeful Hearts Mosaic in Jenkintown. My technical abilities, in addition to those mentioned above, include comprehensive knowledge of Pages, Microsoft Word, Keynote, Power Point and Excel.
Especially now, I believe our children need alternate ways in which to express themselves to better understand the world we live in. The imagination and creativity I see and share with my students is a continuous inspiration for me.
